This guide presents the best titles in the health sciences literature, including the clinical specialties, sub-specialties, basic sciences and emerging disciplines. It covers both the monographic and serial literature in print, digital and online formats. It is not meant to be a comprehensive bibliography; rather, up to ten of the top titles in each discipline have been presented. Quality, value and professional importance have been guiding principles in the selection of titles. The guide is arranged loosely by the G01 Biological Sciences and G02 Health Occupations tree schedules of the National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Each section includes general works related to the discipline as well as more specialized topics such as anatomy and physiology, diseases, pathology, diagnosis and therapy as appropriate. Each entry contains full bibliographic information, followed by an annotation describing the scope and coverage of the work, any significant features and intended audience. The majority of the titles will be appropriate for an academic medical library. Titles also appropriate for a hospital collection will be indicated.Because of the scope of this work, titles of primary interest to consumers have not been included. This guide is valuable for professionals worldwide who need to suggest resources to people in the health sciences.
