Shiban Kishen Koul earned a BE degree in electrical engineeringfrom the Regional Engineering College, Srinagar, Jammu andKashmir, India, in 1977; an MTech in radar and communicationengineering in 1979; and a PhD in Microwave Engineering in1983 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He servedas Deputy Director (Strategy & Planning) from 2012 to 2016, andDr R. P. Shenoy Astra Microwave Chair Professor from 2014 to2018 at the IIT Delhi. He is presently the Deputy Director (Strategy& Planning and International Affairs) at the Indian Institute ofTechnology, Jammu. He also served as the Chairman of M/SAstra Microwave Products Limited, Hyderabad, a major companyinvolved in the development of RF and microwave systemsin India, from 2009 to 2019. His research interests include RF MEMS, high frequency wirelesscommunication, microwave engineering, microwave passive and active circuits,device modelling, millimeter wave IC design, and reconfigurable microwave circuitsincluding antennas. He has successfully completed 36 major sponsored projects, 52 consultancyprojects and 58 technology development projects. He is author/co-author of 450research papers, 10 state-of-the art books, and 3 book chapters. He holds 11 patents and 6copyrights. He is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,USA (IEEE), Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), and Fellow ofthe Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). He is the ChiefEditor of the IETE Journal of Research and Associate Editor of the International Journal ofMicrowave and Wireless Technologies, Cambridge University Press. He has delivered morethan 280 invited technical talks at various international symposia and workshops. Heserved as the MTT-S ADCOM member from 2009 to 2018, is a Member of IEEE MTTSociety’s technical committees on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Integrated Circuits(MTT-6) and RF MEMS (MTT-21), and of the India Initiative team of IEEE MTT-S, AdviserEducation Committee, Membership Services Regional Co-coordinator Region-10, memberof the Sight Adhoc Committee MTT-S, and an MTT-S Speaker Bureau lecturer. He was adistinguished microwave lecturer at IEEE MTT-S for the period 2012–2014, and a distinguishedmicrowave lecturer emeritus at IEEE MTT-S in 2015.He is a recipient of a Gold Medal from the Institute of Electrical and ElectronicsEngineers, Calcutta (1977); the S. K. Mitra Research Award from the IETE for the bestresearch paper (1986); Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Young Scientist Award(1986); International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Young Scientist Award (1987); the topInvention Award (1991) of the National Research Development Council for his contributionsto the indigenous development of ferrite phase shifter technology; VASVIK Award(1994) for the development of Ka-band components and phase shifters; the Ram LalWadhwa Gold Medal from the Institution of Electronics and Communication Engineers(IETE) (1995); an Academic Excellence award (1998) from the Indian Government for hispioneering contributions to phase control modules for Rajendra Radar; the Shri OmPrakash Bhasin Award (2009) in the field of Electronics and Information Technology;a Teaching Excellence award (2012) from IIT Delhi, an award for his contribution to thegrowth of smart material technology (2012) by the ISSS, Bangalore; the Vasvik Award(2012) for contributions made to the area of Information and Communications Technology(ICT); the M. N. Saha Memorial Award (2013) from the IETE for the best application-orientedresearch paper; and the IEEE MTT Society Distinguished Educator Award (2014).G. S. Karthikeya gained his undergraduate degree in electronicsand communication engineering in 2010 from the VisvesvarayaTechnological University, Belgaum. He received a Master’s degreein microwave engineering from the University of Kerala in 2012.He worked as an Assistant Professor in Visvesvaraya TechnologicalUniversity from 2013 to 2016, where he established the AntennaArchitects’ lab. He joined the Centre for Applied Research inElectronics, IIT Delhi in January 2017 and defended his thesis inDecember 2019. He has authored or co-authored more than 40articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.He has also filed three Indian patents and two US patents. Hisresearch interests include metamaterials, EBG structures, andmmWave antennas for mobile terminals and base stations. He is amember of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, and the Antenna Test & Measurementsociety. He serves as the reviewer of ACES, IEEE Access and Cambridge’s IJMWT. He hasparticipated actively in more than 15 workshops on antennas in India and abroad.
