`I re-read Denis Lawton's chapter on the mistakes of The National Curriculum twice and would recommend a purchase of the book simply for that' - Times Educational Supplement

`Buy the book for the grand variety of essays it contains, which certainly adds up to a convincing unity, summed up by the concluding editor, Peter Mortimore, as a picture of a man whose "compassion, passion for education and great technical competence" is the legacy of Tomlinson-the-seer' - Education Today

`Taken as a whole, we have an insightful collection of commentary and judgements from the great and good of the period, but a period that has never recovered from the cost of cutting and ideological narrowness of the mid 1970s. Is it faint praise, I wonder to say that, but for these writers and John Tomlinson, matters would have been worse. Many of these writers have worked hard to keep the voice of hope and joy, of nurturing and inclusiveness, of trust and faith alive in the system' - Children & Society

These essays address many of the important ideas being debated in education today. They also provide an historical context for the discussion of the major educational themes that have dominated education over the last twenty years or so. They have been written to honour the outstanding work carried out over more than forty years by Professor John Tomlinson, Director the Institute of Education at the University of Warwick and former Chief Education Officer of Cheshire. The authors who have contributed to this collection have paths which - at some stage - have crossed with that of John Tomlinson.
