Mark Harris is a military historian specialising in the naval aspects of the Great War. His writing is rooted in extensive research in archival records to present a full and complete view of conflict from the perspective of all of the participants. He has come to writing after a professional management career in Financial Services, with extensive experience in product management, literature and communications, as well as operational, project and relationship management. He holds an Honours Degree in Economics, as well as being a Qualified Teacher and Accountant.

A very learned and theoretically engaged contribution to scholarship ... the author has chosen to write several chapters in prose traditional to the discipline, several chapters in first-person narrative, and to include a visual chapter entirely of photographs.
