Emilia is thirty-one years old. A terrible event in her past has led her to hide in Sassaia, a semi-abandoned village in the mountains of Piedmont, Northern Italy, where the sun sets too soon.

Emilia has committed one of the worst crimes a human being can commit: she has killed. This is her secret. This is her past.

Then she meets Bruno, a local school teacher. Bruno also lives in solitude, with a pang of guilt in his heart, but also with the pain of a victim.
