D. S. Mirsky

This is the extraordinary story of 'Comrade Prince' D. S. Mirsky, Russia's best literary critic. A poet and Guards officer before the Revolution, he emigrated in 1920 and taught at London University, publishing prolifically in both English and Russian. He then joined the Communist Party and returned in 1932 to Stalin's Moscow, to be arrested five years later and die in the Gulag. This biography, the first in any language, draws on much unpublished material, including Mirsky's NKVD files.
