Chums Of Scranton High Out For The Pennant

The chums of Scranton high out for the pennant follows a spirited group of high school boys from Scranton High who are determined to claim the championship of the Three Town High School League. Centred on the school's baseball team, the story highlights teamwork, ambition, and the thrill of competition as captain Hugh Morgan, his close friend Thad Stevens, and their teammates Owen Dugdale and "Just" Smith prepare for the big games. When rain spoils their practice plans, the boys' afternoon walk home turns into an unexpected encounter at Sadler Farm, where they meet a wandering hobo named Wandering Lu and hear his poignant tale of loss and the search for a long-lost sister. This meeting introduces themes of compassion, charity, and the quiet struggles that lie beneath the surface of everyday life. The opening chapters balance the boys' enthusiasm for the baseball season with the moral weight of responding to others in need, laying the groundwork for a narrative that blends sports rivalry, friendship, and acts of kindness in equal measure.
