Matteo Benedetti is an associate professor in Machine Design at the University of Trento, where he has been since 2007. In 2004 he got his PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Trento. In 2003-2004 he was a visiting researcher at the Technical University Hamburg-Harburg (Germany) and in 2022 at the McGill University (Canada). His research interests include (a) characterization and modelling of the mechanical behavior of materials under static and cyclic loadings, (b) manufacturing-related fatigue issues in 3D printed cellular lattice materials, (c) measurement and modelling of residual stress fields and their incorporation into fatigue design, (c) structural integrity of machine elements and structural details. He co-authored more than 100 journal papers and 120 conference articles, collecting more than 4000 citations. He gave some invited seminars and plenary lectures. He served as the chairman of the Technical Division “Residual Stresses of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (USA). He currently serves as Associate Editor for the journals "Material Design & Processing Communication" (Wiley), "Additive Manufacturing Letters" (Elsevier), and "Forces in Mechanics" (Elsevier). Professor Filippo Berto is chair in mechanics of materials at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He was professor of machine design at the University of Padua, Italy, between 2006 and 2015. He is chairman of the technical committee ESIS TC15 on Structural Integrity of additive manufactured components of European Structural Integrity Society. Filippo Berto received several awards and distinctions, such as Award of Merit (2018) and Wohler medal (2020) from the European Structural Integrity Society. He has received the Stephen Timoshenko Fellow (2018) given by University of Stanford (USA). Filippo Berto is part of the Top Italian Scientists Engineering (Italy). He is editor-in-chief or Editor of several scientific journals, such as, Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, Material Design & Processing Communications and Materials. In addition, he belongs to the editorial board of several leading scientific journals in the area of fatigue, fracture and structural integrity, such as, Materials & Design, International Journal of Fatigue, Safety Science, Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering: A, Advanced Engineering Materials, Polymer Testing, Strength of Materials, among others. He is also collaborating with the Centre of Excellence of additive manufacturing established in Auburn and in particular with Prof. Nima Shamsaei and Dr. Mohsen Seifi who is chair of additive manufacturing programs in ASTM. Filippo Berto is also voting member of ASTM F42 on Additive Manufacturing Technologies and ASTM E08 on Metal Fatigue and Fracture. As technical Chair of TC15 is also the founder of the series of European conferences on additive manufacturing ESIAM. Nima Shamsaei is currently the Philpott-WestPoint Stevens Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University, where he is also the founding director of the National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME), a NASA and NIST funded research center focused on advancing the additive manufacturing (AM) technology. NCAME is also one of the two U.S.-based founding partners of the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) with the aim to guide multi-disciplinary research and foster effective collaborations amongst industry, government, academia, and non-profit organizations for ensuring a coordinated, global effort for rapidly closing standards and workforce development gaps in advanced manufacturing. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Shamsaei spent many years in industry, including in leadership positions, specializing in fatigue analysis and durability test development. Dr. Shamsaei then took his skillset to Mississippi State University in 2013 and initiated a university level AM research track. The focus of his research was on the structural integrity of AM metallic materials, which is his continued primary area of interest at Auburn University. His research work has resulted so far in publishing over 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings as well as 130+ technical presentations including 60+ invited talks or keynote/plenary speeches in the areas of fatigue, fracture, mechanics of materials, and AM material/part qualification, certification, and standardization. Several government agencies and private companies sponsor many of his research projects in order to advance AM technology for faster industrial adoption. He has served as the guest editor for the International Journal of Fatigue 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th special issues on Additive Manufacturing in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022 as well as the Journal of Materials Processing Technology’s 1st and 2nd special issues on AM Process Qualification in 2021 and 2022. Dr. Shamsaei also organizes multiple AM-related symposia and conferences in ASTM, TMS, and ASME.
