A History of the Khipu

From the late nineteenth century through the present, academic research on the Andean knotted cord system known as the khipu has focused almost exclusively on the material object and its semiotic conventions. This book addresses this oversight by constructing an interdisciplinary history of the khipu from pre-Hispanic times through 1650.
