Globally, the methodologies of legal education have not changed in any fundamental way, some methods dating back hundreds of years. Law schools have relied, for too long, on passive learning methods such as lectures or cases. Clinical legal education provides an alternative that is more than just another pedagogical method. Richard J. Wilson has taught law for more than thirty years. He has been a visiting faculty member in law schools in Finland, the Netherlands, Peru and Japan, and was a Fulbright scholar in Colombia and Tiller House Fellow with the American Society of International Law. He has co-edited two books and authored more than 70 articles on a wide range of topics including legal education, human rights and criminal procedure, and he has received three academic prizes for his writing.
