Science Communication and Development

The author assesses science and technology in India and concludes that India's planners and scientists perpetuate the colonial tradition of restricting the benefits of science and technology to a small elite, ignoring historical and contemporary reality in their desire to eschew indigenous scientific traditions.

As a means of achieving a meaningful 'technological revolution', Vilanilam proposes a marriage of communication and development which builds upwards from the grass roots and makes use of mass participation in folk and traditional media.
