Christine Crudo Blackburn is assistant research scientist and deputy director of the Pandemic and Biosecurity Policy Program at the Bush School of Government and Public Service and adjunct faculty member in the department of health promotion and Community Health Sciences at Texas A&M University.Macey Lively received her master of international affairs degree from the Bush School of Government and Public Service and is currently a master of public health student in the School of Public Health at Texas A&M University.

The commonly held impression is that [neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)] are a "global" issue, i.e., a problem "over there." Not so, argue the authors of this book.
