Man-Chung TANG is Chairman of the Board of T Y Lin International (China), a subsidiary of T Y Lin International, USA. He is a professional engineer in the United States, a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a Corres. Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, UK, and an Honorary Professor of Tsinghua, Tongji, Southeast, and 10 other universities in China. He was an adjunct professor at Columbia University in New York from 1986 to 1994.Dr Tang received his Doctor of Engineering degree in 1965 from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. Later he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree by the University of Kassel, Germany, an Honorary Doctor of Literature degree by Chu Hai College, Hong Kong and an Honorary Master's degree in Architecture by the University of Venice, Italy.In 1999, Engineering News-Record recognized Dr Tang as one of the world's top 125 people in the engineering/construction industry in the past 125 years.He was awarded the IABSE's International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering and presented with the ASCE's OPAL Award for Design in 2010. In 2013, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Institution of Structural Engineers, UK, and in 2016, the Kuohao Li Medal by the Kuohao Li Foundation, China for his innovation in bridge concepts.He has published four books and over 150 technical papers. He has led the design and/or construction of over 100 major bridges — 10 of them of world record spans at the time of completion — located in all five inhabited continents of the world. She teaches English for specific purposes (ESP) for Civil Engineering and FIDIC contracts in English and is in charge of the training of civil engineers and translators working on site at overseas projects, in the English language. Her major research interests are English translation of technical documents, contracts, tenders, and communication on jobsites. Her translation experience includes being the full-time on-site translator for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Project, Ertan Hydro-electric Power Station Lot II, Penang Second Marine Crossing (technical design document and specification translation) and Shenzhen–Zhongshan Fixed Link (design proposal competition). She translated and published Oresund Technical Publication — The Tunnel from English into Chinese and complied college course books entitled English for Tunnel Engineering and A Practical English Coursebook for Postgraduates.
