Ing studied English literature in the West China Union University, Chengtu. She was the editor (1972–1992) and publisher of The Taipei Chinese PEN.Chi Pang-yuan is Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at National Taiwan University, and author of The Great Flowing River: A Memoir of China, from Manchuria to Taiwan.
