John C. Peterson is a retired professor of mathematics at Chattanooga State Community College, Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he received the Teaching Excellence Award. His professional experience includes teaching at middle school, high school and university levels as well as working in the industry. In addition to MATHEMATICS FOR MACHINE TECHNOLOGY, 8th Edition, Dr. Peterson has authored or co-authored four other Cengage books: INTRODUCTORY TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS, TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS, TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS WITH CALCULUS and MATH FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE TRADE. A member of the team that revised the 2015 College Board of Mathematical Sciences cross-sectional survey of undergraduate mathematical science programs, Dr. Peterson has also served as a vice president of The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. He has published over 90 journal papers and given more than 200 presentations. Dr. Peterson earned his Ph.D. in mathematics education from The Ohio State University. Kathleen A. McGarry is a former teacher who left education to become a Human Factors Engineer. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Experimental Psychology from The Catholic University of America. She has multiple conference proceedings, publications and presentations and is currently a Principal Human-Centered Design Engineer with The MITRE Corporation who has performed research focused on improving safety and efficiency in the National Airspace System (NAS), improving speech-to-text for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and has worked on multiple projects supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). Smith was Associate Professor Emeritus of Industrial Technology at Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, Connecticut. He has also been active in teaching applied mathematics, physics and industrial materials and processes on the secondary school level and in apprenticeship programs.
