Mid-18th Century, England.
Scarlet is a graceful young woman with her whole life ahead of her. However, as time goes by, her life becomes unruly entwined with the lives and deeds of people around her who represent a kaleidoscope of distinctive characters: a corrupt sheriff, a determined doctor, an intriguing bandit and an assortment of resolute but vulnerable women.
