Recovering unpublished manuscripts and material witnesses to early U.S. engagement with the Muslim world, Einboden argues that Islamic literature and Middle Eastern languages catalyzed authorial identities in early America, acting as vehicles of artistic reflection, religious contemplation, and political liberation.
