Industrial Explosives and their Applications for Rock Excavation

Marilena Cardu is Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino University (Environment, Land and Infrastructures Department – DIATI); Research responsible of the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering - Section of Turin - of the National Research Council (CNR-IGG). He’s an expert in numerical modelling and in rock masses characterization for applications both open pit and underground. His teaching activity includes Mining Plants, MSc in Petroleum & Mining Engineering – path Mining, Politecnico di Torino; Tunnelling, MSc in Environmental Engineering; Master course in Tunnelling and Tunnel Boring Machines. Main topics of research: Conventional and mechanized excavation, rock mass conditioning for EPB applications, especially regarding the geotechnical characterization of the conditioned material, Tunnelling and Tunnel Boring Machines; he spent a period at Aalto University in Espoo, Helsinki, improving his knowledge on Scandinavian rock masses. He has been working also as a project engineer at Rockplan, located in Helsinki, Finland, since 2010.Carmine Todaro is Post-doctoral research fellow at Politecnico di Torino University (Environment, Land and Infrastructures Department – DIATI).
