Benjamin T. Lynerd teaches political theory and American politics, including a seminar on Frederick Douglass, at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. He writes about political theology, republican theory, African American thought, and the many intersections between these themes. He recently edited Land Reform: A Global Perspective (NOVA 2025), a volume featuring the work of scholars from five different continents. He holds a Ph.D. in political theory from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in classical piano from the University of Maryland. He currently serves on the Community Advisory Board for WHRO, the largest public media operation in Virginia.
