The Author: Wladyslaw Welfe is professor and director of the Institute of Econometrics and Statistics of the University of Lodz (Poland). He received honorary degrees: D.H.C. of University of Uppsala (1978) and Academy of Economics, Cracow (1995). The main research activities are characterized by more than 200 monographs and papers. The principal fields of research were: the index number theory and applications, the econometric consumer's demand analysis, the econometric models of the Polish Economy.
