Lawson traces the lives of great men and women of God down through the centuries and rediscovers a practice in the church that has perhaps been forgotten. After repentance and water baptism, new believers would seek the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Elders or those filled with the Holy Spirit would anoint, lay hands on, and pray for this infilling of the Spirit. In this way, the Holy Spirit was passed down from one believer to the next, from one generation to the next.
