Death in April Creek

Death in April Creek is set in the fictional town of Eastport in New Zealand's South Island. Ex local policeman, Frank Tyler, can't help getting involved in the investigation surrounding a drowned youth when he returns to Eastport to attend his father's funeral. He soon discovers the death is related to thefts from the container port. Eastport is a small town holding a large secret and it takes a family tragedy before Frank learns the truth - that the robberies, the death of the youth and a serious assault on his sister some years before, are connected to his father's death.
