Critical Perspectives on Bivocational Ministry

Bivocational Ministry (BM) is a much more universal phenomenon amongst churches than has often been recognised. Whilst much attention has been paid to BM as it plays out in specific denominations (such as in the Church of England, where it is called 'Self-Supporting Ministry', or in the Catholic Church with its ‘worker priests’), there has been little in the way of broader analyses of the bivocational approach. In Critical Perspectives on Bivocational Ministry, Hartness M. Samushonga seeks a theological and scriptural foundation for bivocational ministry, considering its history, challenges and advantages within the life of the worldwide church. Whereas often Bivocational Ministry has been treated as if it were a solution to a problem of stretched resources, the author suggests it should instead be seen in its own right as a distinct and important calling within the global church.
