With over four years research, the author draws upon the regimental archives and journals, anecdotes, personal and official diaries, and a wide range of other documents and interviews. The book's recurring themes are the changing nature of infantry soldiering, the constant battle of the Army to recruit, and the traditions and the Ooneness' of an infantry regiment. Special emphasis and extensive coverage is also given to the 1st Battalion's operational activities and to the Northern Ireland campaign in particular.
