Mutue Toyota Fujii, PhD, is a Scientific Researcher and of the Biodiversity Conservation Department at the Environmental Research Institute - IPA, (formerly Institute of Botany), from São Paulo, Brazil. She obtained a Master and PhD degrees in Biological Science from the São Paulo State University (UNESP) for her studies on morphological, chemical and cytogenetical approaches on Laurencia s.l. (Rhodophyta) from Brazil. Areas of interest are biodiversity, taxonomy, molecular phylogeny and phylogeography of seaweeds.Valéria Cassano, PhD, is a Professor at the Department of Botany, University of São Paulo. She is currently Herbarium Curator of SPF-Algae at the University of São Paulo. She obtained a Master in Biological Sciences (Botany) at the National Museum, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro for her research on the filamentous brown algae (Phaeophyceae) and PhD at the Environmental Research Institute (IPA, formerly Institute of Botany), São Paulo, Brazil for her research on the taxonomy and phylogeny of the Laurencia complex (Ceramiales, Rhodophyta). She is focusing her research on taxonomy, systematics, and molecular phylogeny of seaweeds.José Marcos de Castro Nunes, PhD, is Professor at the Federal University of Bahia. PhD, Graduated in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Bahia, Master in Biological Sciences (Botany) from the University of São Paulo, Doctor in Sciences (Botany) from the University of São Paulo. Post-doctorate at Harvard University developing studies on the genomics of marine macroalgae. Curator of the Algae Collection at the Herbarium Alexandre Leal Costa (ALCB). Coordinator of the Marine Algae Laboratory - LAMAR/UFBA. Experience in Botany, with emphasis on taxonomy, molecular biology, phylogeny and ecology of marine algae.
