Born to Thrive

I was born in 1966. My early years were filled with a great deal of trauma. By the time I started school in 1972, I had already experienced the sexual abuse that changed my world forever. Most little girls were concerned with ballerina tutu's and slippers, my main concern was how to protect myself. 

Fast forward 12 years, at age 17, I met the love of my life, and he invited me to share his whirlwind journey. 6 years later, I married him. This man was one of Australia’s high-profile jockeys. Stepping into his world provided me with countless life experience, some have been incredible, and some catastrophic. Nonetheless, each experience has been very significant to where I am today. 

The examples in this book will inspire you to take charge and initiate the process of forgiveness in your own life. It will offer you strategies to help you identify your own pain, and from there, you will be supported as you initiate your own healing process. My story will offer those of you who feel stuck, several strategies to restore your self-esteem and reclaim your life. 

The most significant thing you can take away from reading this book is the understanding that nothing is out of your reach. If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. 

Throughout our lives we all have countless situations thrown our way that require us to use our negotiation skills. Some of us are born into privileged homes, and there are those of us who are not so privileged. Consequently, our early years may be filled with trauma and situations that put us well behind the eight-ball before we even start. I want you to know, every one of us was born to thrive, no matter what your start in life. Often those of us who have suffered, have so much to offer to the world but we remain stuck because we listen to the voices that stereotype us and keep us trapped. Therefore, it is up to you to push past the obstacles that have been placed before you. I know you can do it, because I did, and I will help you throughout this book. 

My story is one of trauma, forgiveness, humility, empathy, healing, empowerment, determination to achieve excellence, success and peace. My life’s journey is evidence that you can be knocked down not just once, but many times and still recover. You can create the end to your story. It’s in your hands. 

My prayer for you today is this: after reading my book, you will make a decision in your heart to go for gold. Don’t settle for the mediocre. Don’t allow others interpretation of you to be your compass. Follow your heart and remember this next statement. ‘Born to Thrive.’ We are all born to thrive, not just me, not just your neighbour, but you. ‘YOU ARE BORN TO THRIVE’. Now, let me show you how.
