Basel III Endgame: Navigating Financial Regulations and Uncertainties

In the ever-evolving landscape of banking regulation, setting capital requirements is a crucial and continuous process. In response to banking turbulence following the bank failures in March 2023, federal banking regulatory officials from the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) introduced a series of substantive proposals. Among these was a joint proposal issued on July 27, 2023, to revise large bank capital requirements.
