First published in 1881, this historical novel is set in feudal Japan and tells the story of Araki, a powerful daimyo or feudal lord, and his struggles to maintain his position in the face of political intrigue and factionalism. Written by British author Mona B. Bickerstaffe, who spent several years living in Japan, the novel offers a vivid and authentic depiction of samurai culture in the 16th century.
