The Lougheed Conservatives swept into power in Alberta in 1971. For the next decade and a half, the Lougheed government combined a sophisticated and visionary view of the role of culture in society with the affluence of an oil boom to foster a remarkable artistic renaissance in the province. Fil Fraser, a nationally recognized filmmaker, broadcaster, journalist and social activist, was at the heart of that cultural revolution.
