This important study goes a long way to decoding women's images on Indian television. Krishnan and Dighe survey the nature and quality of the portrayal of women in various types of programmes on Indian television, finding that traditional values have a stranglehold over the manner in which women's images and issues are projected. They conclude that the public realm in Indian media is the male space while the woman is relgated to the private sphere.
