Low-Carbon Smart Cities

This bookaims to integrate climate mitigation and adaptation tools into conventional urbanplanning. It emphasizes thevalue andimportance of ICT as connected technology. The authorbelieves thatICT and IOT can facilitate controlling climate change attributes when deployed with appropriate ingredients andcomposition incities in an integrated comprehensive manner. It was writtenwith theauthor'sfirm beliefthatcities play an important role inmitigatingclimatechange by reducing energy consumption,promotingthe useofrenewableenergy sources,or by trading emission permitsandselling Certified Emission Rights (CERs). Thisbooklooks at green growth based onthecircular economyusing green smarttechnologyasa sustainabletool forgreen economic development.Also for climate change adaptation,cities have to takeactions to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change on people, property and ecosystems in the urbanplanning process. It hasbeen written with the author's works for Urban Environment Accords (UEA)andInternationalUrbanTrainingCenter (IUTC) in collaborationwith UNEP, WorldBank,UNFCCCand UN-HABITAT. It can be used as a training source book for city climate planners and urbanpractitioners of local governments.Itwill be utilized as amorepracticalguidebook forclimate changepolicy makers as wellas a futuristic research agenda for next generations.
