The authors also evaluate the evolving European institutions, laws, policies, practices, and arrangements that impact the defense industry. They also propose recommendations for the future. As the book discusses, a more open and competitive transatlantic defense market can potentially facilitate greater force interoperability and capability acquisition in an era where coalition warfare is the norm. A more competitive market would also encourage greater competition, and the affordability and innovation it brings, in a time of global defense industrial consolidation.
