This book is part of a four-volume set designed to provide students, engineers, and researchers with advanced knowledge for the design and development of architectured materials engineered to control radiative heat transfer in energy-related applications. The series is based on 14 written courses delivered during the CNRS thematic school MATTER (Architectured Materials for the Control of Radiative Heat Transfer: From Material Elaboration Processes to Industrial Applications), held from May 10–15, 2022, and organized by the French research network TAMARYS.This third volume focuses on the elaboration of architectured materials through ceramic and thin film processes. It provides an in-depth view of shaping and sintering mechanisms, ceramic additive manufacturing, and thin film deposition techniques, with the objective of tailoring radiative and thermal properties through micro- and meso-structural control. By linking processing parameters to structural evolution and resulting properties, the book offers essential knowledge for designing materials suitable for industrial applications where radiative heat transfer dominates.

B. Rousseau is a Senior Researcher at CNRS and the director of the French CNRS Research Group TAMARYS. His research focuses on the multi-scale modeling of thermal radiative properties in heterogeneous media using 3D digitalized images, with applications in heat exchangers, volumetric solar absorbers, and infrared heating.F. Enguehard is a Professor at the University of Poitiers. His research interests include radiative heat transfer in non-Beerian media, the interaction of radiation with sub-wavelength complex-shaped objects, and conduction-radiation coupling in heterogeneous media using stochastic modeling techniques.S. Foucaud is a Professor at the University of Limoges and leads the Ceramics under Environmental Constraints research axis at IRCER. Her research focuses on the development of ceramic materials for extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and aggressive environments. She is also a member of the scientific council of the CNRS INC.
