Tom Trimmins started woodworking when he was given his first workbench and tools at eight years old. It’s been a lifelong passion ever since. After a childhood of making projects at home and hanging around a local cabinet maker’s workshop, he studied furniture-making at degree level in Buckinghamshire. After that he worked for several high-end furniture workshops before starting his own business in 2009.He started teaching after telling a friend that it was something he really wanted to do. Harbouring his own woodworking ambitions, his friend said if Tom would teach, he would find a group of interested people to learn. Tom has now been teaching woodwork every week for eight years.In addition to teaching woodworking classes, Tom makes fine furniture at his workshop on a city farm in Islington, London. He works on commissions or teaches during the day and takes classes in the evening.Tom is a traditionally trained craftsman, with a modern Japanese and midcentury-influenced style with a broad appeal.
