This monograph attempts to re-visit and re-position craft, craftspeople and their methods of problem-solving as an alternate method of cognizing and visualization shaped by its own constraints, advantages and system of evaluation and correction. The contents largely focus on Banarasi toymakers on whom linguistic analysis has revealed a rich understanding of categorization that stems from a strong domain knowledge assimilated through practice and experience. The category-based approach discussed in this book indicates a higher promise of acceptability and retention of changes made through developmental interventions and client orders in the Banarasi craft.
