Re-Legitimising Painting in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

This title captures the metamorphosis of contemporary arts in post-Soviet Uzbekistan (1991-2004). The cornerstone of this research work is centered on the narratives around assumptions of infallibility of state hegemony in arts, art being pushed into the black market of forbidden foreign currency, as well as the circulation and importance of arts regardless of social, ethnic or religious loyalties.
