Tillfälligt slut

Guenther has revealed a deep complementarity and interdependence between the writings of Karl Rahner and Johann Baptist Metz. The work investigates the different contemporary theologies, analyzing whether Rahner's theology represents a true version of what Metz has for some twenty years termed a political theology. The author offers an interpretation of Metz's relation to modern secularity, his dialogue with Marxism and critical theory, and the development of his own special themes, including discipleship christology and the truly Christian meaning of solidarity. Guenther's comprehensive treatment of Rahner's thought explores his indebtedness to modern transcendental philosophy and his difference from it. In his exploration of Rahner's ideas on the Second Vatican Council and his concern for the church's role in the world, Guenther discusses the development of Rahner's theology of human subjectivity and freedom, his ringing incarnationalism, and pastoral commitment. Guenther measures the apologetic potential to warrant the description "political". Guenther then examines the complementary (and supplementary) elements of Rahner and Metz's theologies. Contents: On Procedure; Introduction; "Political Theology" as Practical Fundamental Theology; Characteristics and Dynamics of Rahner's Theology; Political Theological Content in Rahner's Work; Conclusion: Karl Rahner's "Political Theology"; Bibliography.
