Performing and Visual Arts Writing and Reviewing is based on the belief that an arts writer and reviewer has three needs: background knowledge of the art he is writing about; skill in the craft of arts writing and reviewing; and the ability to see, to grasp the significant and pertinent detail of an art. ; Topics discussed include:^R the nature of the arts writer/reviewer's work, the details of reviewing and coverage, the opportunities available, and the responsibilities of anyone in the role of reviewer, writing techniques, ways in which the writer can see the detail and meaning in each art he reviews, and background in the arts, with some suggestions on reference works and their use and the process of acquiring background.
