C.A. Byford was born in Northamptonshire, UK, and spent his childhood wanting to draw comics, inspired by British media such as Beano, Dandy, Wizzer and Chips, Cor!, Henry’s Cat, Trapdoor and other such things. This eventually led into creative writing, an urge so strong that he would write a series one chapter at a time and distribute them on floppy disk or print them out to a little fan following at senior school. After becoming seriously ill with ulcerative colitis, he was admitted to hospital for life-saving surgery, leaving him disabled. After leaving, he gained a new outlook on life and moved to Gloucester. A triple whammy of needing more surgery, being made redundant and becoming a father gave him the window to give himself a year to get published. He was picked up by HQ, got a space on the Kate Nash lit bootcamp, and has been slowly releasing titles through his own imprint Unusual Type. He does plenty of astrophotography, loves folklore and anything whimsical and weird.
