Iodine-DMSO catalyzed Chemoselective aromatization of THBC

This book deals with novel methodology for chemoselective dehydrogenation, aromatization, deallyalation, No deallylation with molecular iodine in DMSO and their utility is extended to the synthesis of -carboline alkaloids and biologically active -carboline and indazole heterocycles. Aromatic--carboline alkaloids are composed of nitrogen-containing heterocycles and represent a tricyclic pyrido[3,4-b]indole ring system.1 They are present in a large number of natural products like marine sponges and territorial plants2 as well as in as normal constituents of human tissues and body fluids3. The -carboline moiety is a very important synthetic intermediate for a variety of pharmaceutically important natural products and drug molecules.
