This book has been written as a result of my social interaction with friends, students, and people who practice and live in extended families. It provides on the spot information on the impact of extended family ties on the educational performance and pursuit of students in Segbewema. However, the study would have been more interesting if it were done in as many communities, towns, and districts, but being and academic exercise, it was timebound and had some constraints. Like family, the extended family is severally defined as a social unit that contains the nuclear together with blood relations/ relatives. An extended family is simply a family unit that extends past the nuclear family to include other relatives such as aunts and grandparents. The extended family is one that extends beyond the immediate family consisting of parents, uncles, aunts cousins and grandparents all living nearby or in the same household. In most cultures, the core of the family is the nuclear family which consist of the parents and children.
