Pol Dalmau works on the history of modern Spain from a global perspective. He obtained his doctorate from the European University Institute in Florence and subsequently held a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz. His first monograph analyzed the crisis of liberal politics in Southern Europe through the trajectory of the Godó family, the journalistic, political, and business dynasty behind La Vanguardia, Catalonia's leading newspaper. After earning his PhD from the European University Institute in 2011, he joined the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz as a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow. In his book Una sociedad conyugal, he offered a comparative study of liberal elite formation in Valladolid and Magdeburg, analyzing how urban leadership in Spain and Prussia crafted distinct strategies of power in post-Napoleonic Europe. This research examined the diverse methods of governance adopted by local elites as they navigated the post-revolutionary landscape and the shifting political climates of the early and mid nineteenth century.
