This symposium marks a milestone toward renewing the dialogue between the professions of music and medicine. The papers presented in this volume represent the latest research by music educators, music therapists, medical doctors, psychologists and others in the allied health professions. The central focus of this research shows that music indeed is at the core of the rehabilitative process. This book opens the door to this fascinatingly different view of interaction between these two disciplines. Co-published with Music Education for the Handicapped, Inc.
Since much of the literature of music therapy in recent years has been written from the more narrow behavioral point of view, this approach, along with its appropriate scientific substantiation, is a welcome addition to the literature.
