Much as been written on Michelangelo. By 1970, the number of scholarly books and articles exceeded 4,000, approximately a tenth in English. This volume includes inter-disciplinary studies and essays from outside art history, as well as a number of important articles that do not neatly fit into a chronological survey of the artists's life.
