Today, thousands of Montessori schools exist around the world. Dr. Maria Montessori proved that her teaching methods work, but the world was slow to embrace this change during her life. She taught children in the housing projects of Rome, the slums of London and later in life, in India. Disadvantaged young children responded so well, they were often learning at levels beyond their years by the time their study was complete.
