Ekaterine Berishvili obtained her MD and PhD degrees in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1999 and 2003. Between 2003 and 2014, she held research fellow and visiting professor positions at the Diabetes Research Institute, University of Miami (Prof. Camillo Ricordi) and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York (Prof. Sanjeev Gupta). She was promoted associate professor at Tbilisi State Medical University (2008-2014) and is currently holding an associate professorship at Ilia State University, in Tbilisi. She has been working as a scientific collaborator in the department of surgery at the University of Geneva since 2014, and was appointed in 2020 as a leader of research group of Tissue Engineering and Organ Regeneration in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Antonio Citro received his doctor degree in Medical Biotechnology in 2009 and he obtained a Ph.D. in Experimental surgery and Microsurgery in 2014, both at University of Pavia. Since 2016, Antonio focused his research on regenerative medicine and imported to San Raffaele the knowledge of multiple organ engineering and bioreactor customization that he learned at Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Boston. Since November 2019, he has been Project Leader at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele at the Diabetes Research Institute. Dr. Citro has received several honours, including the Premio Umberto di Mario from Italian Diabetes Society (SID), best oral communication at the 2021 IPITA meeting and different EPITA Awards from the European Society for Organ Transplantation. He contributes to the JDRF beta cell replacement consortium and serves on the editorial board of Transplant International and Frontiers Bioengineering and Biotechnology - section Regenerative medicine and Tissue Engineering.Dr Andrea Peloso graduated from the University of Pavia in Italy. From the start, he had a vision of a dual clinical and research career, and pursued a PhD in Experimental surgery and Microsurgery, before a post-doctoral 18-month research at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, focusing his research on regenerative medicine and organ bioengineering applied to general surgery and solid organ transplantation. After his training he moved to the University of Geneva, Switzerland, where he now has an academic appointment as Privat Docent. Since 2017, he’s been training as an abdominal surgeon and then as a more specialized surgeon dedicated to the management of liver and pancreas diseases through surgery of transplantation.Dr. Peloso has published more than 100 papers. He has received several awards both locally and internationally and has been supported by various institutions including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
