Cardiopulmonary Interactions in Sleep: Comprehensive Approaches to Mitral Regurgitation and Sleep-Disordered Breathing examines the correlation of these two serious pathologies. These conditions are commonly present in patients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure, and interrelated via various pathophysiological links, creating a vicious cycle of clinical deterioration. Interestingly, their coexistence not only contributes to disease severity, but increased mortality and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Yet, there is currently no book covering the interplay between mitral regurgitation and sleep disordered breathing (obstructive sleep apnea/central sleep apnea). Thus, this book fills a gap in an emerging and promising field of research. This book offers a detailed description of diagnosis, as well as discussion of coexistent pathologies including arrhythmias and heart failure. As the focus of the book is the effect of interventional therapy, it is the first to discuss the effects of surgical and transcatheter techniques in sleep disordered breathing. The effects of these interventions on sleep apnea are analyzed, with respect to the positive effect on sleep apnea and the result of better sleep respiration, along with mitral valve repair.
