In the spirit of Adam Gidwitz comes a fairytale for the modern reader, but this time, the fairies are the monsters lurking in the shadows.

In a city overrun by war, Luka doesn't have time for childish games. So when his little sister asks him to care for her faeries as she's sent away to escape the air raids, he agrees without thinking anything of it. It's already more than he can bear to see his sister go.

But when he returns to an empty home, anger and frustration get the better of him. Instead of leaving an offering for the faeries as he promised he would, Luka flings their saucer of milk as far out the window as he can. Big mistake. As Luka soon discovers, faeries are in fact very real, but they're more terrifying than he could have ever imagined from bedtime stories. And now they want revenge.

With the aid of his new friends--a savvy techie, a quiet evacuee, and an unlikely ally--Luka has three days to fortify his house with the only material faeries can't get through: iron. The only problem is all the iron has been claimed by the war effort. The Wild Hunstboys, though, refuse to be deterred. But issue is even more complicated than Luka thought, and those closest to him will pay the price if the clock runs out of time.
