In Serbia ecosystems, indigenous fruit trees are characterized by distinct floro-biodiversity characteristics. Namely, within 15 families and 26 genera, a 100 indigenous fruit trees can be found. This enormous natural resource of fruit gene pool includes 214 taxons lower than species (17 subspecies, 42 varieties and 155 forms). This monograph represents the results of continual and persistent work of three authors who studied wild (bird) cherry (Prunus avium L.) on five ecologically different localities, as phytocoenoses representative, where this species is grown in natural populations. Such written book is primarily intended for future scientists (postgraduates and PhD students), and may be used by fruit scientists who are engaged in cherry breeding and production, as well as for those who wish to increase their knowledge in this field of genetic resources.
