Reaching the radio station Pacheco, a stopping point for all mariners wishing to contact the mainland, he places a call to his wife. When a male voice answers, and the line falls dead immediately afterwards, the seaman begins to wonder whether it is the technology or his wife's fidelity that he must doubt.
